Government building system reforms

The Government has recently outlined a number of reforms underway in the building and construction portfolio via a press release issued by the Building and Construction Minister, Hon Chris Penk.

This year, the Government has commenced a number of initiatives including, but not limited to:
- Reforming the building consent system
- Removing barriers to using overseas building products
- Progressing remote building inspections
- Making it easier to build granny flats
- Extending deadlines for earthquake prone buildings
- Reviewing the earthquake prone building legislation
