Immigration and tourism
This section provides information, resources and guidance on our functions which support immigration and tourism.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, New Zealand set up a Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) system out of necessity to protect our people.
New Zealand’s immigration system needs to function well within wider labour market, economic, community and security contexts to enhance New Zealanders’ well-being.
We advise the government on resetting and rebuilding tourism on a sustainable and regenerative model of tourism. Regenerative tourism is about giving back more to people and places than it takes. It actively enriches our communities and helps protect and restore our environment. We provide support to the sector as it navigates difficult times, and we provide policy advice to support its recovery.
We collect, analyse and publish New Zealand tourism data, along with a range of useful tools and publications.
