Te Ara Paerangi – Future Pathways was launched in October 2021 with the release of a Green Paper highlighting a range of issues facing the research, science and innovation system.
The White Paper builds on sector feedback received on the Green Paper. It outlines 4 areas of reform:
- creating new futures to ensure the research, science and innovation system makes an impact of national and global significance
- embedding Te Tiriti and Māori aspirations into the design of the research, science and innovation system.
- growing a system to truly support an excellent and diverse workforce
- building a sustainable, resilient and cohesive system.
In 2023, MBIE will be developing and implementing the policy directions listed in the White Paper. MBIE will engage with the sector in discussions and policy documents on specific proposals as they are developed.
