Te Ōhanga Māori The Māori Economy
The Māori economy is key to the wellbeing of Māori. It is a significant, and increasingly important contributor to the wider economy of New Zealand.
On this page
We acknowledge that in Te Ao Māori, the true value of taonga such as land and water cannot be reflected on a balance sheet or in numerical values. Te Ōhanga Māori reports recognise this point and provides a rich description of Māori participation in the economy. This description goes beyond simply counting the dollar value of Māori assets.
The reports inform and support iwi, Māori, business, and Government in its decision making about the future development and wellbeing of Māori and New Zealand.
The upcoming Te Ōhanga Māori 2023 report is scheduled to be released early December 2024. This report will build on previous work, following the well-established methodology from Te Ōhanga Māori 2018 reports.
