Tēnei tūranga – About the role

The Assistant People Hub Advisor is the primary contact for People and Culture customers on all HR related matters. This role is responsible for delivering timely, high-quality, and consistent HR advice, coaching and support to managers to effectively use MBIE’s systems and processes and work within the policies that are in place to build management competence. This role is also responsible for producing transactional employment documentation, providing position management guidance and people-related services to other areas of People and Culture as required. This role will report to and work closely with Manager P&C People Hub to deliver and will escalate complex enquiries to the People Advisors as required.

Personal specifications

  • Experience working in a customer facing role is required.
  • Knowledge of a call centre or shared services environment and relevant HR technology is desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment legislation.
  • Understanding of the internal dynamics of a Government department.
  • Sound administrative experience and computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify areas of improvement, potential solutions and tools and resources needed to meet customer expectations.
  • Able to exercise sound judgment and initiative.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritisation, and execution skills as will often work within tight timeframes and under pressure.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and to quickly adapt to the needs of a business’s changing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships, maintaining confidentiality, trust and credibility with managers and staff.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Tertiary qualification preferably in human resources management, or comparable related experience.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

  • Themes in knowledge gaps across leadership group identified and escalated.
  • Escalates more complex issues to others in the People and Culture team as required.
  • Documentation produced within appropriate time frames.
  • Documentation accurate and legislative requirements met.

Wellbeing, health and safety

  • Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensures own and others safety at all times.
  • Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting.
  • Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion.
  • Is involved in health and safety through participation and consultation.
