Standards New Zealand (Standards NZ) is New Zealand's national standards body, working closely with government, industry, consumer, and stakeholder groups to develop and provide access to standards that shape and improve the lives of all New Zealanders. Standards can play a key enabling role to grow value for New Zealand by facilitating trade and business and protecting the health, safety and well-being of New Zealanders.
Our role includes:
- Standards development. We offer stakeholders from a variety of sectors a range of pathways to develop new standards, update existing standards, or adopt overseas standards.
- International participation. We co-ordinate international participation in a wide range of ISO and IEC international standards and represent New Zealand, and its interests on the international standards stage.
- Access to standards. We publish, sell and enable access to New Zealand, joint Australian/New Zealand, and international standards through our web-shop, subscription and reseller services.
The Senior Data Quality Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Standards NZ's data, enabling the business to make informed, data-driven decisions. The role ensures data accuracy in the database and making improvements to the functionality of the database, addressing data inconsistencies from third-party APIs, and coordinating the business intelligence (BI) system to transform raw data into meaningful insights. The role is also responsible for translating business needs into requirements and explaining complex technical information in an easy-to-understand way.
The role is also supporting Standards NZ performance and output reporting, including ministerial and public servicing (e.g. responding to OIA requests) and producing other reports as required.
This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to customers and stakeholders. The Senior Data Quality Analyst will also support the Senior Business Systems Advisor in designing and implementing new system features and troubleshooting data-related issues.

Technology
- Strong knowledge and experience with analytical tools (Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Dynamics CRM)
- Advanced Excel skills.
- A solid understanding of cloud database technologies, SAP Business Objects, APIs, Azure Functions and .NET Core.

Skills and Experience
- Analytical experience with complex and disparate information to deliver insights and trends.
- Experience in determining data requirements for reporting and optimal reporting methods.
- Up-to-date with trends in database administration.
- Good understanding of data modelling, data structure, data quality, and assurance processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Numerical ability and accurate data entry skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Privacy Act 2020 and the Official Information Act 1982.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in database administration or a similar role.

Data Quality
- Serve as the subject matter expert in Standards NZ’s data domain.
- Identify and deliver initiatives to improve the quality of Standards NZ’s data.
- › Develop and maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for data elements and tables.
- › Collaborate with other teams within MBIE and external service providers to identify and implement database requirements for new or existing applications.
- Optimise database performance and efficiency by evaluating and recommending new database technologies.
Systems and Integrations
- Resolve data-related technical issues and troubleshoot queries for users and developers.
- Support the development and maintenance of APIs for seamless system integration.
- Execute disaster recovery plans to ensure database availability during system outages.
- Suggest improvements for database maintenance or protection.
Regularly liaise with IT project managers and database programmers. - Reporting, Analysis and Insights
- › Proactively engage with the wider Standards NZ team to prioritise analysis and provide information to support decision-making.
- Take ownership in developing and delivering the data statgey of Standards NZ.
- Develop reporting systems and dashboards in SAP Business Objects and Microsoft Power BI.
- Proactively identify areas of research that will benefit Standard NZ, MBIE and Government Obejctives.
- Run reports to support MBIE and Standards NZ performance reporting and business analytics, ministerial and public servicing (e.g. OIA requests) and other data requests as required.
Work management
- Establish and embed processes to support analysis and engagement activities to improve data quality.
- Take a subject matter expert role in initiatives supporting Standards NZ’s business functions.
- Provide and maintain expertise in Standards NZ’s business activities and systems.
- Assist the SNZ team with ad hoc requests.
System Improvements
- Gain insights into customer needs to inform future product and system enhancements.
- Identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Develop user stories for system change requests.
- Conduct User-Acceptance-Testing for deployed system changes.
- Record and manage role processes in the process management system.
