Consultation is now closed on options for amending the Gas Act 1992.
On May 12 2019 we released a consultation document titled “Options for amending the Gas Act 1992”. Consultation ended on 12 June 2019. The discussion document looked at ensuring the Gas Act 1992 is fit-for-purpose in regulating the use of emerging technologies and alternative fuels in New Zealand.
It also looked at how to improve information disclosure between parties in the gas sector in the wake of a disruption to gas supplies from Pohokura in 2018, and for improving the penalty regime for industry participants and consumers under the Gas Act 1992.
The questions were based around three topics:
- Emerging challenges for the Act
- Information disclosure requirements
