Easing the pressure of increased visitor numbers
District and city councils across New Zealand report steady — and sometimes significant — growth in the number of visitors to their regions. While good news for the tourism sector and economy, this can put pressure on infrastructure.
New and upgraded facilities like toilets, car parks, waste disposal and sewerage systems and pedestrian access help:
- councils respond to and benefit from increasing visitor numbers, and
- ensure that visitors have access to safe, convenient and quality facilities.
