Tēnei tūranga – About the role 

Advisor, Operational Marketing is a team member position in MBIE. Key roles for the Advisor, Operational Marketing are to:

  • Support the Operational Marketing team to deliver the Operational Marketing & Content (OMC) Marketing strategy. 
  • Work with other members of OMC Marketing team (and other teams) to deliver on OMC's objectives.
  • Work to develop, deliver and improve OMC’s digital marketing approach.
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver the OMC Marketing workplan and communications projects as directed.
  • Work with key internal and external suppliers to support the timely and effective delivery of marketing products and services.
  • Work collaboratively with all other members of the OMC Marketing team to ensure that all activity is delivered to a high standard and continually improves.
  • Work to broaden and develop their own skills relevant to the work of the team and support other team members to develop their own skills. 
  • The Advisor Marketing works collaboratively with colleagues across the wider OMC, Immigration NZ (INZ) and MBIE teams, ensuring quality and consistency of advice and delivery in their contribution to the team’s work.

Personal specifications

  • Developing knowledge of marketing and communications strategy and implementation.
  • Knowledge of current digital marketing techniques including online marketing, paid and organic social media platforms, eDM, marketing automation, content marketing, database management, and website analytics.
  • A passion for hands-on-the-tools digital marketing with Meta and Google ads managers, including the daily refinement and optimisations of campaigns. 
  • A quick and willing learner – with the ability to rapidly assimilate new information and to acquire new skills.
  • A self-starter with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships with teammates, and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of MBIE and where the team fits in delivering outcomes for the Ministry.
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or have a residence class visa.
  • A tertiary qualification in marketing, information management, or business and/or comparable relevant experience.
  • All employees are required to comply with MBIE’s vaccination policy which seeks to protect the wellbeing, health and safety of our people, their whānau and the community. You are required to hold a valid vaccination pass to be employed at MBIE.

Responsibilities of this position are expected to change over time as the Ministry responds to changing needs. The incumbent will need the flexibility to adapt and develop as the environment evolves.   • Contribute to the day-to-day work of the team.
  • Support the Operational Marketing Manager and other OMC team members to develop, write and implement marketing and communication strategies.
  • Implement INZ’s marketing products and services to support INZ’s strategic direction.
  • Readily adopt ownership of daily business-as-usual activities & tasks to which they are assigned. Monitor progress against agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Willingly support fellow marketing team members as required and ensure that synergies and inter-dependencies between activities and audiences are exploited and/or managed.
  • Develop and refine campaign strategies (each including a clear outline of objectives, performance indicators and key deliverables) targeting a range of audiences. Ensure alignment with the agreed strategic direction.
  • Actively evaluate all activities against key performance indicators and develop strategies to improve campaign performance. 
  • Identify strategic and operational issues for campaigns and ensure that implications and opportunities are integrated into current and future activity.
  • Develop quality marketing products that support the goals of OMC, INZ and MBIE and that are recognised as providing trusted information to INZ’s audiences. 
  • Undertake regular reporting/monitoring of campaign performance as required. Communicate findings and performance of activities of the team and wider SEE/INZ/MBIE audiences as required.
