Tēnei tūranga – About the role

The Product Owner is responsible for maximising the value of specific ICT products by creating and managing the product user stories & backlog. They will look at areas for product development and be responsible for the creation of backlog items prioritising them based on the overall strategy and business objectives. The Product Owner will map out product dependencies to inform the necessary sequence of change in line with the release dates of products. Working closely with the wider team, they will create and maintain a product backlog according to business needs; they will lead the planning of the product release plans and set the expectation for delivery of new functionalities. They provide an active role in mitigating any risks or issues impacting successful completion of product releases. They are a coach and mentor for the Product range.

  • Sound knowledge and some demonstrated experience working with these products:
    • End User Compute (Windows Desktop OS).
    • MS Teams.
    • MS Office365.
    • MS Exchange On-line and Exchange On-line archive including E-Discovery toolsets.
    • Mobile devices (Tablets, Smartphones).
    • Teleconferencing and Audio-Visual services.
    • E-Discovery tools.
  • A strategic outlook with the capability to analyse large, complex issues and readily grasp and assimilate the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others.
  • Fosters an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, ongoing learning, and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactively identifies key relationships and possesses an ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiating skills at all levels.

Product Delivery

Delivery of high-quality operational product owner services. The Product Owner will be required to deliver results in the following areas:

  • Leads the development of the product user stories and backlog ensuring delivery of the Product Roadmap.
  • Contributes to budget bids for new funding for products.
  • Applies advanced judgement in managing risks and issues associated with new and existing products.
  • Leads the delivery of releases in relation to new and existing products with the help of Enterprise Platform Managers in your team and the other Product Owners.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with other the product owners, to ensure thorough delivery of products.
  • Assists other teams across ICT to deliver products that may be required.
  • Supports the ICT branch.

Plans and manages work, leads project teams, develops and maintains relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Uses project planning techniques to effectively carry out work, within the resources available and provides timely reports on progress.
  • Works will little guidance - identifies the overall objectives and seeks guidance where required and uses initiative to resolve conflicts, manage risks and coordinate work with others.
  • Leads multiple pieces of work concurrently and actively and independently plans and manages workload.

  • Contributes to the performance of the team through providing peer review and quality control.
  • Aligns team’s work programmes with ICT strategic direction.
