The Insolvency Officer provides insolvency and trustee services in relation to company liquidations and personal bankruptcies in accordance with statutory requirements, and also assists in regional Proceeds of Crime fieldwork as required.

Skills and experience

A proven track record of experience and achievement in:

  • Ability to understand and apply relevant legislation.
  • Sound asset management skills.
  • Sound written and oral presentation skills.
  • Sound operational and legislative knowledge of the statutory function of the Official Assignee’s work practices, or practical industry or business experience.
  • Planning and organising skills, including ability to maintain performance when under pressure, critically assess work-flows, and appropriate prioritising of work.
  • Computer and keyboard skills including ability to use Word, Excel, and information databases, and knowledge of web sites and Internet services.

Responsibilities of this this position are expected to change over time as the Ministry responds to changing needs. The incumbent will need the flexibility to adapt and development as the environment evolves.

Administration of Estates

An Insolvency Officer will be required to deliver results in the following areas:

  • Complete case administration from initial allocation.
  • Engage in regular file reviews with insolvency managers.
  • Investigate possible breaches of legislation.
  • Engage and liaise with accounting and legal providers in matters concerning asset and risk management issues.
  • Input of information into the OASIS database and ensure the accuracy of this information is maintained.
  • Complete general administration for file maintenance purposes such as file notes and filing.
  • Maintains Quality – works within the quality systems for the ITS group.
  • Minimise Risk – manages risk in own work area by delivering services within agreed procedures and advising Manager of any issues.

Asset management

  • Identify assets through interviews and investigation of records.
  • Locate, seize and realise assets.
  • Complete administration in relation to asset management and risk matters for all assets including insurance, risk assessments, ownership investigations.
  • Appointment and monitoring of agents engaged in the realisation of assets/closure of business.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with creditors, insolvent parties and clients

  • Maintain effective communication including reporting and responding to verbal and written queries.
  • Receive and investigate the validity of claims.
  • Manages client expectations and deals effectively with conflict situations.

Effective group and wider team membership

  • Collaboration with colleagues and Insolvency teams.
  • Participate in Branch / Ministry projects.
  • Share ideas and experience including information sharing between offices.
  • Continuously review operational processes to improve service delivery to clients.
