Tēnei tūranga – About the role
The Advisor Tupu Tai plays a key role in contributing to the end to end delivery of the Tupu Tai Pasifika Public Sector internship programme, including planning, recruitment, pastoral care, stakeholder engagement, training, facilitation and event management. This is a highly collaborative role that will need to actively build and maintain a wide range of internal and external relationships to support the successful delivery of the Tupu Tai programme.

Personal specifications
- Can manage workload and priorities to effectively deliver on outcomes.
- Significant experience working with Pacific young people (3+ years) in a mentoring/coaching or early in career advisory capacity preferably in the youth development or tertiary sector.
- Knowledge and experience of the aspirations and needs of Pacific young people including evidence of involvement in Pacific networks.
- An ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with a wide range of people at all levels, both internal and external to MBIE.
- Is comfortable quickly developing an understanding of context in relation to the insights required and provide strategic advice.
- Comfortable operating in a work programme and project environment, and has some knowledge and experience in this field.
- Well-developed analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on collaboration.
- Ability to navigate and maintain important relationships and partnerships with stakeholders.
- An understanding of government decision making and recruiting environment would be beneficial.
- Some advisory experience in an area of HR practice, such as recruitment, L&D, performance management etc. would be beneficial.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

The responsibilities of the position are expected to change over time as the programme or work changes and the incumbent will need the flexibility to adapt and develop as the environment evolves.
Programme Delivery
- Contributes to the successful delivery of the annual Tupu Tai internship programme, including the identification of any risks, and provision of advice to the Senior Advisor Tupu Tai Programme Lead and Manager
- Understands the programmes objectives and partners with key stakeholders across the Public Sector to ensure the successful delivery of all streams of the programme.
- Provides insights and advice to the Senior Advisor Tupu Tai Programme Lead focused on how we can continuously improve end-to-end Tupu Tai processes and experiences for Tupu Tai interns and alumni who have entered the public sector.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the attraction strategy and plan, ensuring it aligns with the Tupu Tai programme objectives and works for Pacific communities.
- Contributes to the delivery of the end-to-end recruitment process for the annual Tupu Tai interns recruitment campaign.
- Supports the delivery of the Tupu Tai programme, including programme retreats, workshops, and the opening and closing ceremonies.
- Contributes to the delivery of structured culturally grounded pastoral care and early in career support for Tupu Tai interns.
- Plans and (where required) facilitates the delivery of training for public sector agency managers and buddies taking part in the Tupu Tai programme.
Communication & Relationship Management
- Effectively develops and maintains relationships with programme stakeholders both internal and external.
- Collaborates with Public Sector early in career HR teams to ensure relevant information is shared, including best practice learnings from Tupu Tai.
- Communicates well with Tupu Tai candidates and public sector agencies to support MBIE’s employer brand.
Wellbeing, Health and Safety
- Displays commitment through actively supporting all safety and wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensures own and others safety at all times.
- Complies with relevant safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, safe systems of work and event reporting.
- Reports all incidents/accidents, including near misses in a timely fashion.
