The New Zealand Energy Quarterly provides quarterly data and analysis on energy supply, demand, prices and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

We undertook a consultation over May and June 2023 on a set of draft assumptions about the future state of the electricity system. These assumptions will be used to produce our regular Electricity Demand and Generation Scenarios (EDGS) publication.

Funding was allocated through multiple funding rounds with the final set of projects announced in September 2023. The Fund is now closed.

In August 2020, the Government established a new fund to trial renewable energy technologies on Māori and public housing. Funding has been allocated and the majority of installations are expected to be complete by the end of 2024. This initiative is part of a suite of government initiatives to improve energy affordability and create warm, healthy and energy efficient homes.

Increased capacity helped with record electricity generation from wind between July and September 2023, according to data released today by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
