72 science projects funded through the Endeavour Fund

72 science projects have been awarded a total of $236 million through the latest round of the Endeavour Fund.

The Endeavour Fund supports science that has the high potential to positively transform New Zealand’s economy, environment, and society. The fund supports projects through two mechanisms; Smart Ideas and Research Programmes. This year, 53 new Smart Ideas and 19 new Research Programmes will receive funding.

The Smart Ideas investment mechanism is intended to catalyse and rapidly test promising innovative ideas with high potential for benefit to New Zealand. These projects are two or three years long and have a maximum value of $1 million per project.

Research Programmes support ambitious, excellent and well-defined research ideas which collectively have credible and high potential to positively transform New Zealand’s future in areas of future value, growth or critical need. Research Programmes have a duration of three, four or five years. Investments have a minimum value of $0.5 million per year.

Proposals for the next round of the Endeavour Fund are invited from Monday 30 September.
