The Minister for Energy and the Minister for Resources have initiated a review of the performance of electricity markets. The review began in early 2025.
As electric vehicle (EV) adoption grows across New Zealand, the way we charge these vehicles is becoming increasingly important.

Fuel supply disruptions in New Zealand are coordinated by the Fuel Sector Coordinating Entity, using the response activities in the National Fuel Plan. International disruptions are coordinated through the International Energy Agency.
In June 2025 we consulted on proposals to introduce or update Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and Mandatory Energy Performance Labelling (MEPL) requirements across a range of product classes under the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations 2002.
The Government is seeking feedback on proposed regulatory options for the development of natural and orange hydrogen in New Zealand.
