Overview of future system, and next steps
The Customer and Product Data Bill creates a high-level framework which can be applied to the whole economy.
On this page
The Bill creates the basic settings for requiring data exchange.
- Important details will be in regulations which set out safeguards and accreditation criteria.
- It will be ‘turned on’ sector by sector, through ‘designations’ (which are provided for in the Bill).
Overview of the whole system enabled by the Bill
We are exploring applying the Bill to the banking and electricity sectors and inviting feedback on discussion documents for those sectors.
Tell us what you think about a CDR in the banking and electricity sectors
MBIE aims to consult on the proposed designation and regulations while the Bill is before Select Committee, so the three can be considered together.
Follow the Bill’s progress through Parliament, including through select committee(external link) – bills.parliament.nz
Please email us if you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive updates on the Bill, or consultation on regulations for the banking and electricity sectors:
Please note that while the Bill is before Select Committee all feedback about the Bill must be directed to the Clerk of the Committee.
