Disciplinary procedures for interpreters

Procedures

All complaints are taken seriously and investigated to ensure that fairness and transparency have been carried out.

Principles

If an interpreter has been found to engage in activities that breach the Code of Conduct, for example, getting personally involved with a client, the following principles will govern how complaints are handled:

  • Interpreters will be given a fair hearing to respond to the complaints by attending an interview with MBIE management.
  • All matters are recorded.
  • Complaints will be dealt with speedily.

Deletion

  • If an interpreter has been found to engage in an activity that is a major breach of the Code of Conduct after investigation, the management will decide to delete the interpreter permanently from the interpreters list.
  • MBIE will issue a written communication to the interpreter.
  • During investigation, MBIE will advise its officers not to use the interpreter.
