Global Youth Scientists Summit

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has been invited to nominate a limited number of participants for Singapore’s Global Youth Scientists Summit (GYSS) on 6-10 January 2025. The conference will be in-person in Singapore.

GYSS is a gathering of young scientists and research (35 years old or younger) from all over the world, with a chance to interact with eminent scientists and technology leaders in the multidisciplinary fields of chemistry, physics, medicine, mathematics, computer science and engineering. GYSS provides a platform for conversations on science and research, technology, innovation and solutions to global challenges.

Further information about GYSS, including eligibility criteria and confirmed speakers, is included below and on their website:

If you, or someone you know, would like to be included on this nomination list, please provide the following details to internationalscience@mbie.govt.nz (CC Neihana.Waitai@mbie.govt.nz) by 5pm, Thursday 29 August 2024:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Host institution
  • Gender
  • Age
  • Designation (for example. undergraduate, MSc, PhD, or postdoc)
  • Research area (no more than a summary sentence)

MBIE can nominate up to 15 people. Spots will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. MBIE will upload these details to the GYSS portal and nominees will be contacted by the GYSS Organising Committee (via the submitted email address) in September 2024 to provide further registration details. This may include uploading an endorsement letter from their supervisor or academic mentor, describing:

  • A demonstrated strong commitment to their principal field of studies and to interdisciplinary work, and
  • Any achievements and specific accomplishments in their scientific work or in raising public awareness in science.

Later in 2024, all nominated participants and their institutions will receive an update on their final decision on participant selection, which is made at the discretion of the GYSS Organising Committee. Please note that an MBIE nomination does not guarantee an invitation to participate in GYSS 2025. Nominees who do not complete the registration will also be disqualified.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

About GYSS

Since 2013, the GYSS has been bridging the gap between aspiring researchers and the foremost scientists and technologists of various fields. All attendees – whether on-site or online – will have the opportunity to engage and connect with distinguished speakers, which include recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Turing Award and Millenium Technology Prize.

The Summit offers a series of activities, including live plenary lectures, panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and networking platforms. Participants will also stand a chance to:

  • Be part of small group informal sessions with their pre-selected speaker(s)
  • Present their research on stage or through poster sessions, and
  • Visit institutes of higher learning and other prominent landmarks in Singapore.
